kyle asked for buying stories with real numbers in the welcome thread, so this is mine. a bit long.
2021 F-150 Raptor SuperCrew, 3.5 HO, Code Orange, 801A package, factory 35s, no 37 package. the dash photo on the listing said 29,140 miles. it sat in a lender yard in Sparks, Nevada and i never laid eyes on it until it rolled off the carrier. bought it in april through M&A Auto Sales, which is an online broker for bank repos. the trucks stay wherever the bank parked them and you bid from your couch.
this was not my first try. in march i put 61,000 on a 2022 Raptor with the 37 package that was in a yard in Arizona and lost. the bids are sealed, you never see anyone else's number, so all i got was an email saying i had not won. no idea if i missed by 50 dollars or 5,000. that bugged me for a week.
for the april truck i did homework first. the Ford store here had a 2021 Raptor with 31k at 64,995 plus a 699 doc fee. two in the Denver area at 62,500 and 66,000. private party ones from 56 to 60, and every one of those had a tune or a lift or a story. i bid 58,750 and got it. the invoice was the bid, no buyer's premium line anywhere. Sparks to here is right around 800 road miles which is under the free 1,000, so delivery was zero. i wired on a monday and it was in town 13 days later. the driver would not bring a full car hauler down my street so i met him in the Home Depot lot on 24 Road, fair enough.
the listing had 48 photos. i saved all of them and put them in a shared folder, PM me for the link since attachments are off here. i would like people who know these trucks to look at them, because i only looked at them as a buyer.
went through your folder with coffee. photo 23, the low shot of the passenger front. look past the tire at the inside of the wheel and the lower control arm. that dark speckle in a fan pattern is grease, and it is thrown outward from the axle. that is a split inner CV boot on the front half shaft. it will not make a sound for a long time, which is why nobody notices, but once dirt gets in the joint the boot is the cheap part and the shaft is not.
the rest of the m&a listing photos look like a truck that was driven and not beaten. skids are scuffed, not caved in. tire wear looks even in the four wheel shots. crawl under it with a flashlight tonight.
while you are under there, the shocks. the gen 3 has the Fox 3.1 Live Valve internal bypass. at 29k, if the last owner used it like a Raptor, they are close to due. what you are looking for is an oily film on the shock body below the seal, or dust stuck to the shaft area. dry and dusty is fine. wet and dusty is a seal. we charge around 225 a corner to service these if nothing is scored, more if the shaft is pitted.

marisol, you were right and i am a little embarrassed. it has been in my garage since early may and i never once looked at the inside of the front wheels. passenger inner boot is split about two inches along a fold, grease all over the skid and the arm. no clicking, no vibration, nothing.
took it to a shop on North Ave this morning. boot kit was 46 dollars, they cleaned the joint, said there was no grit in it yet, 212 out the door. caught it in time.
i did email the m&a office about it, mostly so there would be a record. the answer took three days. it was polite, said the photos were what the lender sent over and to send them the invoice if i wanted it looked at under the warranty. by the time i read it the shop was already done and it was 212 dollars, so i left it alone. not a complaint exactly, just know that email is not instant.
fox, fronts are dry, left rear has a light film on the body. watching it.
i will be the one to say it. for 58,750 plus what you are about to pay Colorado you could have had a TRX out of Texas this spring. i watched two 2021s go for 62 and 64 at dealer sales around Houston. 702 horsepower vs 450. you would hear about it every time you pulled up next to one.
to be fair to the Raptor it is narrower and lighter and gets real mileage. i have a TRX and i still look at Raptor Rs every week, so take this from a confused man.

i run the Book Cliffs, the Uncompahgre and Moab a couple times a year. a TRX on the Rattlesnake Canyon road would get new pinstripes every trip, and 10 mpg to Moab and back is a truck payment. i am happy on the Ford. you keep the horsepower.
paperwork, since nobody has asked yet and somebody will. the Nevada title showed up signed over by the bank, lien release stamped on the back, plus a bill of sale from M and A showing them as the broker. Colorado wants a VIN verification on anything coming from out of state, that is form DR 2698. a dealer on Highway 6 did it in the lot for 20 bucks. then the Mesa County clerk: sales tax was just under 4,800, plus specific ownership tax and the plates, a bit over 5,400 total. that is the part i forgot at bid time. if you live in Colorado add about 9 percent to whatever number you are about to bid and see if you still like it.
are those the original KO2s and how much tread is left? i am in a size argument over in the ZR2 35s thread and i want to know how the factory 35 is wearing on a heavier truck.
new here, 2014 Tacoma with 168k, looking for my first real truck. question nobody seems to answer anywhere. when you won, how fast did they want the money? my credit union told me they need a signed purchase agreement before they will fund anything, and i cannot work out how that lines up with a sealed bid where you either win or you do not.

tire guy, original KO2s, DOT date code 4620 so built late 2020. 9/32 front, 8/32 rear. wearing even.
eli, i paid cash. sold my 2016 FX4 to a guy in Fruita for 24 and the rest was savings, so i cannot tell you how a loan works with them. what i can tell you is the order of things. you get the win email, then an invoice with wire instructions, and you pay by wire. so the money has to be ready before you bid, not after. call the m&a people and ask what they can send your credit union ahead of time, then start your own thread with what everybody tells you. a bunch of us would read it.
one thing from the desert side, for anybody bidding on the m&a auction or anywhere else on a truck out of northern Nevada. a Raptor out of a Sparks yard has a decent chance of having seen the Black Rock playa or Moon Rocks. playa dust is alkaline and fine as flour and it gets into everything. check both filters, cabin and engine, and look. if they are gray and caked, replace them and blow out the cowl. cheap insurance, takes twenty minutes.
question from the mod chair since i have seen a few repo trucks change hands. how many keys came with it? half the ones i have seen came with one fob. did the listing say?
after my phaser saga in the cold start thread i have to ask. any rattle on yours on a cold morning? i keep hearing the HO in the gen 3 is different but i would like to hear it from somebody who owns one.

took it up the Baxter Pass road in the Book Cliffs on saturday with my brother in law behind me in his Tacoma. about 30 miles in a shale ledge sliced the sidewall on the right rear KO2. no big deal, the spare is under the bed on the cable winch. got the spare down, went for the lug wrench, and found out somebody along the way put McGard locks on all four wheels. no key in the glovebox, not in the console, not in the paperwork envelope the driver handed me. i had never needed to take a wheel off.
my brother in law drove back down to Loma for cell signal, called a buddy, and he came up with a lock removal socket set from O'Reilly. two and a half hours sitting on a rock. it was 94 and we had plenty of water, so it was a long boring afternoon and nothing worse.
kyle, that answers yours too. one fob. the listing did not say and i did not ask. the dealer charged 385 for a second one programmed. new set of locks with a registered key, 60. new KO2, 328 mounted.
daily, mine is quiet on a cold start. the coldest morning so far was 51 though, ask me in january.
none of this is on the lender. nobody at a repo yard thinks about lug locks. but if you buy through m&a auto sales or anywhere like it, count the keys and look for the lock key the day the truck comes off the carrier, and if something is missing tell them in writing that week, not four months later like me. the listings rotate, mandaautollc.com if you want to see what is up now.
